AN INVITATION TO VISIT THE AMERICAN HUNGARIAN MUSEUM
The AMERICAN HUNGARIAN MUSEUM, PASSAIC was established to preserve, exhibit and cultivate Hungarian culture in one of the largest Hungarian communities in the United States. The MUSEUM specializes in the collection of memorabilia from the community, valuable folk art treasures, folk-crafts, and examples of the art.
The Museum displays exhibits either from its own collection or from private loans. A permanent showing includes examples of folk art, historical artifacts, photographs; brought from the old country or made within the community. Special programs feature lectures, performances, video film showings and workshops.
The MUSEUM ls located in the heart of the old ethnic neighborhood of Passaic inside the historic REID MEMORIAL LIBRARY. Of course, the area has changed since the turn of the century and few Hungarian families live in the close proximity of the MUSEUM. It is therefore even more important for Hungarian culture to survive in the area and could be used as a foundation to spur urban renewal.
