Csárdás Hungarian Dancers is a Hungarian performing and social dance group
in Austin, Texas, that has been active for over 20 years. Our primary goal
is to have fun dancing, but we also perform occasionally at localfestivals
or other events with the hope of introducing Hungarian music and dance to
the community at large. We periodically have workshops -- in 1996-97
../Timar/Sándor & Böske Timár and Zoltán Nagy were able to come to Austin;
and in previous years Sándor Román and Sára Feri have visited. Some
groupmembers have gone tocamps such as Barátság, the Válaszút camp in
Transylvania and the east coast symposium. And, we periodically travel to
other events -- in 1996 eleven folks went to Louisville to see
../Muzsikas/Muzsikás and Márta Sebestyén, and in 1994 six of us from
Austin and two from Houston went to Arizona to see the State Folk Ensemble
perform. We have an aspiring local Hungarian dance band called Kolorash.
They occasionally play for our performancesand táncházak. But as they are
not always available, we often resort to our sizeable collection of tapes
and CDs. The performing group of Csárdás Hungarian Dancers is also
connected to a student group at the University of Texas. So, some of our
members are students, and we are always hoping they will stay in Austin
after they graduate. We would be happy to share our fun, enthusiasm, and
knowledge with other Hungarian dancers in the world. You're welcome to
come dance with us anytime!
