With minor exception this imperial edict would have returned Hungary to its pre-1848 status,indeed it was to strip off its Southern territories and dissolve the centuries-old Croatia-Hungary pact. The edict was not only completely rejected by the diet in Debrecen, but was not even approved by Austria's Reichstag (parliament). Predicated on the victory postulations of Windischgraetz, it was to become an ineffective exercise.
