Replacing a Kossuth statue originally unveiled on June 11 1899 in the Main Square of Marosvásárhely (the work of Miklós Köllö) before a crowd of some20 thousand, removed and destroyed in 1921 by the new occupiers. The citizens of this Eastern Transylvania town (Ciumani in Romanian) have dedicated a new bronze version on October 14 2001, a replica of the original on the main square of Gyergyócsomafalva.

It is the work of sculptor Csaba Sánta of Szováta, commissioned to fashion this new bronze version. The initiative was through the "Miklós Borsos Müvészetéért" foundation at its June 28 1999 plenary session in commemoration of the 1100th anniversary of the Hungarian State and the 150th anniversary of revolution and battle for freedom.

The unveiling and dedication included a photo exhibit of the works of Miklós Köllö and followed by festive mass led by father Dr. Árpád Czirják papal prelate; the town mayor, Dr. Borsos and committee officials. For inscriptions (Hungarian and English) click here
